Keep ornament and garment dimensions separate
Record the applique's confirmed dimensions and the pattern version for each garment size. Mark centre front, shoulder points and finished opening. A change in garment size does not automatically change the supplied ornament, so compare both outlines at actual scale.
Choose representative sizes
Ask the maker which sizes or construction changes need a trial, including the extremes where appropriate. Review the complete front rather than only enlarging a cropped neckline photo. Record whether the desired decorative coverage and balance remain acceptable.
Explore the productsCheck dependent construction
Review fastening, dressing opening and attachment locations for the chosen samples. A placement that looks similar can still change the available opening or overlap a seam. Keep any size-specific adjustment visible in the maker's instructions instead of using an unrestricted same placement note.
Confirm quantities by approved option
If different ornament references are selected, map each to its garment sizes and quantities. Confirm their sales conditions independently. Revisit the allocation when the size mix changes so an approved sample is not mistaken for approval of an untested new combination.
A practical comparison
| Record | Compare | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | Fixed ornament and graded neckline | Actual-scale fit |
| Representative samples | Small and large or other critical sizes | Coverage and balance |
| Allocation | Approved reference by garment size | Quantity for each option |
