Match the sample request to one decision
If the immediate question is a colour comparison, identify the reference and lighting conditions. If it is motif placement, a small clipped flower may not show enough. Explain the decision to Rose and ask what sample or additional information can be provided, without assuming a standard size or a free sample policy.
Include the whole feature that matters
For a border, ask whether the proposed sample includes the edge. For an applique, you may need the complete outline. For a repeating design, request enough information to understand the repeat. Confirm the contents of the sample request so that an attractive but incomplete section does not become the basis for approval.
Explore the productsLet the maker define a construction trial
A seam, gathered area or lined panel may require a different amount from a colour swatch. Ask the maker what is needed for the intended check. Keep any cutting or handling method specific to the material, and agree care or performance requirements before carrying out an unconfirmed treatment.
Write down what the sample does not prove
Record what was approved and which decisions remain open. A colour swatch does not establish garment fit, and a short panel does not establish the quantity available for the final order. Keep sample identity, response date and the next questions together before moving to a larger purchase.
A practical comparison
| Question | Coverage to discuss |
|---|---|
| Colour | Identifiable comparison sample |
| Motif placement | Complete repeat information |
| Border | The relevant edge |
| Construction | Maker-defined trial area |
