Border embroidery for front and back panels: check placement as a pair

A border can work beautifully on one skirt panel and fall at the wrong height on the next. Buyers sourcing embroidered fabric for panelled garments should review the whole set together. Start from the finished silhouette and border position, then ask the pattern maker how those requirements affect cutting and quantity.

Locate the actual border

Request a full-width image showing the decorated edge and opposite edge. Ask whether the border occurs on one side, both sides or elsewhere in the design. Do not infer a matched pair from a folded picture. Confirm usable decorated width separately from the fabric's overall width.

Mark finished reference lines

Draw the finished hem and waist or upper join on every panel. Place the desired border height against those lines, including allowances outside the visible garment. A dramatic edge in a sample photograph may sit inside a seam or need a different finish in the planned construction.

Review panels together

Lay front, back and side panels in their intended order on the same reference. Decide whether the border should continue at joins or whether a deliberate break is acceptable. For shaped panels, ask the maker to check the real pattern; a straight ruler line cannot establish the finished result around every curve.

Confirm yield from the layout

Keep a paired-panel photo and the approved paper layout. Ask the maker to record the required lengths and any placement losses rather than assuming every part of the width is interchangeable. Confirm the sale unit, available cut arrangement and current reference before approving a wholesale quantity.
