Define what must stay whole
Identify the longest panel or decorative route that cannot accept a join. Include cutting allowances and any placement requirement from the maker. This is a construction requirement, not simply the finished garment length. Put it beside the selected product reference when requesting supply information.
Ask for the cut arrangement
Request the number and length of separate cuts, any relevant interruption and how the cuts will be identified. Do not infer a continuous roll from a warehouse picture. For our wax category, one piece is six yards; adding several pieces together does not remove the boundaries between those pieces.
Explore the productsCheck the layout against each cut
Have the cutter place the actual panel set within the proposed individual lengths and usable width. Consider motif direction and matching where required. An aggregate total can be sufficient on paper while a particular large panel still has no suitable uninterrupted place in the supplied arrangement.
Keep changes visible
Record the accepted cut arrangement in the order confirmation. If it changes, ask for the layout to be checked again before acceptance. Do not assume a supplier guarantees one continuous cut unless that exact condition is confirmed; availability and sale units must be established for the selected reference.
A practical comparison
| Measure | Meaning | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Total quantity | Sum of supplied lengths | Order reconciliation |
| Individual cut | One uninterrupted piece | Panel placement |
| Required run | Maker's minimum continuous area | Check supply suitability |
Your buying checklist

- Request individual cut lengths
- Test panels within each cut
- Record the accepted arrangement
