Choose a representative seam
Select a seam that crosses the kinds of embroidery found in the garment. A straight join through empty ground may not represent a decorated waist seam. Identify the fabric reference, face, direction, lining and intended seam allowance. The maker needs those details to produce a useful comparison.
Record the setup and observations
Ask the maker to record the needle, thread, stitch and handling used. Compare the sewn area with an unsewn reference laid without stretching. Look for gathering, skipped stitches, displaced motifs or damage. Seam appearance can depend on several construction variables, so avoid diagnosing the fabric from one unexplained result.
Explore the productsChange one factor at a time
If the first trial is unsatisfactory, let the maker adjust one appropriate variable and label the next sample. Keep both results. Changing fabric, lining and settings together makes it hard to know which change mattered. Do not publish a single machine setting as suitable for every embroidery product or workshop.
Approve the complete combination
Review the front, back and feel of the seam with the intended layers. If a finishing or care process is proposed, first confirm that it is appropriate for all components. Approve a named sample version, then keep it beside the cutting file. Reopen approval if fabric or lining is replaced.
A practical comparison
| Record | Include | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Materials | Fabric, lining and reference sample | Identify the tested combination |
| Construction | Seam type and maker's settings | Make the trial traceable |
| Review | Photos, observations and version | Approve or request a specific change |
